Leaders in academia, subject-matter experts and publishing specialists, the IEEE Climate Magazine editorial team consists of IEEE members and volunteers in key roles—including our Editor-In-Chief, members of the Editorial Board, and the Associate Editors—and the magazine staff lead by the Managing Editor, Serena Bradde. The Editorial Team is responsible for the planning, writing, editing, and publishing of the content that makes up each issue.
Dr. Rahman is the founding director of the Advanced Research Institute at Virginia Tech, a Life Fellow of the IEEE, and an IEEE Millennium Medal winner. He served as IEEE President and CEO in 2023 and as President of the IEEE Power and Energy Society in 2018 and 2019.
With his broad leadership across the engineering community, Dr. Rahman ensures that engineering insights directly inform policymakers and the public on climate issues.

Dr. Goktas is an Assistant Professor at Sabancı University in Istanbul, Türkiye. His research spans responsible and trustworthy AI, machine learning, edge AI, and intelligent systems applied to environmental sustainability, smart cities, and public decision-making.
His international research experience includes serving as a Fulbright Doctoral Research Fellow at Harvard University and a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow at University College Dublin. He brings to the magazine deep technical expertise along with substantial editorial and IEEE leadership contributions.
Professor Kang is Dean of the Department of Electrical Engineering at Tsinghua University and Director of the Tsinghua Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute, with research spanning renewable energy integration, low-carbon power technology, and power system planning, all central to the magazine’s focus.
A Fellow of IEEE, IET, and the Chinese Society of Electrical Engineering, Dr. Kang brings deep expertise backed by more than 300 journal papers and five monographs, as well as sustained leadership in international energy collaboration, including the China-Korea Joint Annual Forum on renewable energy.
Dr. Li is a research professor at the Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, where he serves as Chief Scientist of Artificial Intelligence Oceanography and Chief Engineer of the Big Data Center. Before joining the institute, he spent more than 20 years at NOAA, working in satellite oceanography, big data, and artificial intelligence.
His research applies satellite remote sensing and AI to ocean and climate science, supporting the observation and analysis of phenomena including tropical cyclones, sea ice, coastal inundation, and ocean dynamics. He has authored more than 300 journal papers and brings extensive editorial experience across remote sensing and Earth science publications.

Dr. Shahnaz is a professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at BUET, Bangladesh. Her honors include the Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship and the Bangladesh Academy of Science Gold Medal for her contributions to science and technology.
Dr. Shahnaz’s technical interests span signal processing, robotics, and humanitarian and assistive technologies. She also brings extensive editorial and organizational leadership, including service as an Associate Editor of IEEE Access, an editorial board member of IET Signal Processing, 2023–2024 Chair of IEEE Women in Engineering, and Chair of the IEEE Bangladesh Section.
Through these leadership roles, Dr. Shahnaz has helped foster climate-focused innovation. Her work has included supporting the IEEE Women in Engineering Climate Tech Big Idea Pitch Competition and the IEEE Region 10 Robot Competition for Managing Climate Change, initiatives designed to encourage practical, technology-based responses to climate challenges.

Dr. Thomas is Professor of Electrical Engineering at Jamia Millia Islamia in New Delhi and made history as the first woman Director of the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, both institutions among India’s most prominent in engineering.
Her research focuses on Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems, substation and distribution automation, and smart grids, with a particular emphasis on optimizing how electricity is transmitted, distributed, and consumed.
Since joining IEEE’s climate initiatives in 2022, she has led the development of the IEEE Climate Change Collection on IEEE Xplore, the IEEE Climate Change Taxonomy, and is currently leading taxonomy definitions.

Dr. Wagih leads the Green Electronics Lab at the University of Glasgow and is the founder of RX Watt Limited, an RF wireless power and sensing spin-out, bringing deep expertise in sustainable electronics, wireless systems, and emerging electronic materials. His research portfolio spans 150+ publications, 6 patents, and £19M+ in funded projects, and he has been recognized with honors including the Royal Academy of Engineering Sir George MacFarlane Medal and Forbes 30 Under 30. He currently serves as an IEEE Distinguished Microwave Lecturer, Topic Editor for the IEEE Journal of Microwaves, and Co-Chair of IEEE MTT-S TC26 on RFID, Wireless Sensors, and IoT.
